They’re a very easy plant to grow, flowering from mid-spring right through to late autumn if they’re properly looked after. They can be grown in courtyards and on balconies; they thrive in shady corners, and most hydrangeas do best in dappled shade — morning sun and afternoon shade, or even deep, deep shade.
They love a little bit of fertilizer, but as the name suggests, their main love is plenty of water. Lots of people want to feature hydrangeas in a sunny spot, say at the front of a north-facing house — and you can, if you use a Paniculata hydrangea. ‘Sundae Fraise’ is one of the best choices for a hot, sunny position.
The only proviso is that you need to give them plenty of water to keep the flowers and foliage looking perfect in the hot sun.
