Itoh Peonies are the life’s work of breeder Toichi Ito, who achieved the first successful cross
between Tree Peonies and Herbaceous Peonies in 1948. This inter-species hybrid behaves uniquely: the plant dies down in winter, then bursts back in spring with tree-peony-like foliage and rapidly forms a large, vigorous bush. The flowers are big, brilliantly coloured, and the plant produces repeat blooms, extending the flowering season far beyond that of its parents.
Like many inter-species hybrids, Itoh Peonies are tougher, more vigorous, and more resilient than either parent plant. If you’ve never owned a peony before, an Itoh is the perfect place to start.
