Punica granatum
Red Velvet pomegranate is a new-release variety that has dark, medium-sized fruit with rich red flesh. The flowers are bright orange during spring before fruit appears. It is a self-fertile variety.
Pomegranates should be planted in full sun. It is very drought resistant but grows better with a good supply of water; it also tolerates a period of wet feet.
